Most children start with once-a-week sessions, which is enough for many mild-to-moderate speech and language needs when paired with consistent home practice. Children with more complex needs, or those under the age of 3–4, often start at 2–3 sessions a week to make the most of the years when language develops fastest, then taper down as they progress. There's no single right number — a speech-language therapist will recommend a starting frequency based on your child's needs.
